IT’S A BARBIE WORLD – Get The Look with Wattyl Paint

If you haven’t already seen it, you’ve heard all about it – Barbie, the movie! With a wave of pink seen throughout shopping centres and cinema line ups. There’s no denying the want and need for ‘everything’ pink whether it be in the form of fashion, shoes and accessories or bedroom interiors!
Here at Wattyl, we’ve put together a few tips to ‘get the look’ and make the Barbie dream- room come true – without requiring a Barbie-size bank account!
The over-riding rule of any Barbie bedroom is pink – layer upon layer of pink – in saturated hues such as hot pink, fuchsia and Schiaparelli, together with the occasional blue-based pink that veers towards purple. The other essential is texture – lots of it – think velvet, tulle, satin and glitter, plus sequins in any shade of pink, pearl or silver.
Ideally, the walls of the bedroom should have more than one pink – this can be achieved by introducing organic lines of colour – as in the image above. This also creates an opportunity to introduce some of the more calming pink tints – or barely-there pinks – to provide a little breathing room between the saturated hues that are the trademark of Barbie!

The colour palette is one key factor of any girl’s Barbie-world, the other is styling! Think layers of texture and shape – a clam-shaped pink velvet headboard, sequinned coverlet, satin pillowslips and furniture items such as open book shelves, Perspex chairs, pink-shaded lamps and tactile cushions.
Make the room pop by painting the ceiling in a soft pink – no white here – and introduce some glitter or shine to add further interest!
