Romano moved into his Maroubra home 13 years ago with his wife of 50 years, Iris.
Sadly, Iris has since passed away and Romano’s daughters want him to sell and buy a place that is lower maintenance and spacious enough for them all to live in together – and negate the need for Romano to enter a care home.
The three-bedroom brick home is tired, neglected and dated. In order to attract the best possible price some serious work needs to be done both inside and out.
The kitchen was in desperate need of remodelling, so Wendy chose a flat pack kitchen that would create a bigger and better layout. New appliances and feature lights were also introduced. To add to the functionality of the space, a designated area for sitting and eating was created and skylights were installed to overcome the lack of natural light. The result was an instant flood of beautiful light!
The ability for a fresh coat of paint to completely transform a space has never been more apparent! The entire house was repainted, both inside and out, with Wendy choosing a colour scheme of soft greys, charcoal, white and rusts, with soft earthy hues being used in decorative elements such as cushions and throws.
The clean white of Wattyl White, in I.D. Advanced Ultra Low VOC, was used on most of the interior walls. The deep black/charcoal hue of Wattyl Silent Silhouette was used as a feature wall in bedroom 1, while the same colour was used on kitchen cabinet doors in the form of Wattyl Enamel Water Based Paint with undercoat. The third bedroom has a feature wall of the beautiful warm grey of Billy The Kid. All ceilings were finished in Wattyl I.D. Advanced Ceiling Flat White. The use of predominantly white throughout the interior was to reflect the maximum amount of light and give the perception of space – another useful trick in introducing light to a dark home.
The third bedroom had two doors, with one opening directly into the kitchen – this not only decreased the usable space in the room but was never used! This door was removed, thereby creating a whole extra wall to work with in terms of furniture placement and styling.
